Coping with Stigma

A business analyst by profession, Bonny Ball found herself thrust onto a new path when her treasured 21-year-old son died by suicide. Thanks to support from friends, family, and a huge number of mentors, Bonny has had the opportunity to become involved in many facets of suicide prevention. he was presented the University of British Columbia Department of Psychiatry “Unsung Hero Award” in the volunteer category, and was one of the “faces” for Mental Illness Awareness Week in 2008. She is past chair of the Survivor Division of the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention, and is currently on the organizing committee for the CASP conference to be held in Vancouver in October, 2011.
