QPR is an acronym for Question, Persuade and Refer, an emergency mental health intervention designed to teach citizens how to recognize someone at risk for suicide, intervene, and refer them to an appropriate resource. Like CPR, QPR uses a “chain of survival” concept: early recognition of warning signs, early intervention, early referral, and early treatment. QPR is taught in approximately ninety minutes, both in the classroom and online, and is intended raise awareness while empowering gatekeepers to act quickly to mitigate acute risk, avert suicide attempts, and avoid unnecessary hospitalizations. More than one million people have been trained in QPR. Learn more at www.qprinstitute.com.
